what type of engine oil to use in 500ho motor??
#3
Cornbread2, with all do respect and for sake of a good debate, how can you say another brand of oil is better than Polaris? The engine needs a 0/40 weight oil cause of bearing clearance. Not saying a 50 weight oil would hurt over short period but could be bad over time. The 0 weight oil being the hot temp oil thickness is critical. Something too thick can also cause engine damage over time. For no more difference in the price and the fact that it only takes a couple of quarts, just use factory oil if availible in your area and if not atleast get a 0/40 synthetic oil.

I am using Mobil 1 full synthetci 0W40 in a couple of 500 EFIs with no issues yet. I looked at the various ratings to insure that it met or exceeded what Polaris recommends/requires in the owners manual.
You likely can't go wrong using the Polaris oil but I also don't think you can go wrong with some of the good synthetics (AmsOil, Royal Purple, Mobil 1, to name a few) as long as you use the proper weight and viscosity.
Good luck,
chad
