rejetting 06 hawkeye
#1
I'm planning on rejetting my wife's 2006 hawkeye and was wondering if it's easiest to pull the carb off in order to change the jet or does someone have a trick to get the bottom of that carb off?

It's best to pull it off the first time as the bowl screws are very tight, an impact screwdriver is what works best for breaking them loose. They are soft screws and the head will strip very easy. Also while you have it off you can remove the brass plug over the idle mixture adjustment so that can be fine tuned. Remove the left air duct to the belt housing to get the carb out....

I just did mine last night. I did not disconnect the choke or throttle cables. I used needle nose vise grip pliers to loosen the screws. I ride at 500-200 feet and I put in a 137.5 main and raised the eclip up one position as both are the new settings as in the latest online owner's manual for the 2006 Hawkeye.

I finally got a jet today for my wife's 2006 hawkeye and what a difference it made. It's like a totally different machine. The jet it came with was a 137.5 and I rejetted to a 132.5. Didn't mess with the eclip. Before rejetting the throttle reponse was terriable. It you punched the throttle from a stand still, the machine would bog down and try to flood out. Now, the machine takes right off like it should have from the dealer. Our altitude here is just above 5200 feet. Anyone having problems with the hawkeye should be able to fix this problem with a simple jet swap.

HERE'S THE FIX...........
If your dealer won't replace the jets and wants to drill holes, keep in mind the jets are under 10 bucks and the labor should only be about 30 bucks or so I was told. I'd rather spend the cash than have 6 holes in my airbox.

According to Polaris the dealer can either replace the jets or (stupid) drill 6 1/2 inch holes in the top of the airbox and you can self adjust by removing the rubber plugs in those holes, again (stupid)
