Tires for a sportsman 600
#1
Time for new tires. Thought I wanted something with stiffer side walls up front. It just seems to understeer like a old plymouth. I ride on rocky Pennsylvania trails and some mud. What have people tried and liked? Brand and Model? Number of plys? Bias or Radial?

i dont know what came stock on the 04' the radail tire is nice because it does'nt vibrate like some of the big lug tires do. i had the stock pxt on and they were very tires(now on the wifes 450) but i wanted deeper lugs and a little stiffer side wall. so i have the itp mudlite xtr radials. so far very tires. they ride pretty good on hard pack as well. but if you do more rock climbing then mud then i'm not sure. i've heard of a new tire out thats really good for that but not sure of name. i'm sure someone will know it though.

I have swamplites and like them very much but for rocks they wouldn't last. So i think you should check out the new itp terracross. Its much like a maxxis big horn but it seems to be a little better. If you ride deep mud and rocks i would go for the mud lite xtrs as stendori stated. Good luck with what ever you get.

Thanks alot. Terracross look real good but cost 2x$ of the mudlights.... do you think we are paying for hipe or for better tech.... I'm not cheap and would gladly buy an expensive tire based on quality and features but also I am a believer in the "be sure of what you pay for" addage.
thanks again

I have swamplites and ride alot of sharp rocky terrain, and havnt had any problems. The sidewallls are suprisingly strong. I also like the swamplites alot. Check them in my pics, the have a great all terrain aggressive traction

If you look at my pics, click the pictures of the painted exaust, in one of them it has a good view of the tread left, thats after a few hundred miles of gravel/hardpack/rough terrain/pavement. They are holding up very well.
