Default Hawkeye Carb Fix

Thanks for the advice,

I am out of town, but will be home tonight. I will post the results here. Hopefully this will help.

As for the gas cap, I do know for a fact that one time I took the gas cap off to look inside then put it back on and it started. I didn't think to keep trying that whenever it happened, so I am unsure to be honest if that is the problem. Either way, it's worth a try.

Usually I just let the thing sit for about ten minutes, and then it starts again. I can ride it for a bit, then it stalls. Rinse and repeat.

Once I had to tow this thing TEN MILES out of the forest... One Hawkeye towing another.... Sad sight.... I dont' want to repeat that again. To be honest, I think it does have the symptom of a gas vent...

If you wife's stalls, what do you do to restart it? I had to loosen the gas cap on mine and it would fire right up, so I knew it was an issue with venting.
Well I'll be damned.... The vent line was seriously pinched. I totally can see how this would cause issues. Thanks so much TenesseeTider... You hit the nail on the head. I'm going riding tomorrow and now I can feel safe riding my Hawkeye far into the forest!

Thanks thanks thanks!

Hope that solves the problem for good. I REALLY like my Hawk. I love the clutch setup with no lag. It is a FAR SUPERIOR setup on the clutch when compared to my Sportsman.

I put 25" mudlites on mine ant it rides so much better!

Let me know if it stalls on your ride. THe line may still try to pinch off. Was yours pinched on the rib of the tank. If so, what a stupid way to route the vent line! It could have been routed 1000 better ways!

I had the same problem with our 06 hawkeye ,,moved the hose around and shortened that snorkel a little bit and the thing runs great , ive had to pull other quads home with it ,, the problem still comes up when the motor gets steam to much and then it cuts out for a bit and then clears up ,,other than that i had to lean it out a little in the summer and richen it in the winter, I put 25 inch goodyears on it and they look and work great, this thing climbs good but doesnt have a Midrange at all, Dynojet has a jet kit for it that will give it a Midrange punch with 2 hp Increase when you go from 12 hp to 14 hp it makes a big diffrence in Overall performance.

Rickeyparker,
Have you installed the Dynojet kit in yours? If so were you pleased with it, and what was involved with the install? Is it just new a new main jet and needle? Thanks.

Havent got the jet kit or drilled my slide yet but powerslider told me awhile back that he drilled the slide and really helped his alot.. Mine is running pretty good,,if i get the jet kit and drill the slide and get a lighter clutch spring i think it will be perfect.

Drill the slide first, big improvement, you can get lighter rollers for the drive clutch but there's no spring in it to change. The 06 has 14g rollers, the 07 has 13g and they also make lighter high alt sets....

Powerslider,

Can I just make the existing hole in the slide larger, or do you reccommend making another hole on the other side of the slide the same size as the existing hole.

I am willing to drill the slide since you are so high on this mod. Will that affect the jetting setup that I have now?

Does it make the throttle response noticably crisper? I just want to make sure I have everything covered before I work up the gumption to take all the crap off again just to get to the carb.

I would drill a second hole, most cv slides have two ports. This is just their way make the throttle response slower. It won't affect jetting at all and you don't have to take much off to do it. I just loosen the boot clamps and rotate the carb a bit to access the diaphram cover screws.

that's how the bottom of the slide will look when done, the center hole is where the needle is......
