How to Change Main Jet?
#1
I have a 2005 Polaris Sportsman 400 that cuts out at full throttle at altitudes above 11,000 feet. I have high altitude clutching and a 165 main jet. I believe I need to go to a smaller jet, probably to a 162.5, and would like to make the change myself.
How difficult is it to make a main jet change? I have the Service Manual, but it's not very specific about how to do it. Can it be done without removing the carb? If anyone could describe the procedure, I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance!

not 100% w/out looking at it but you should have a drain bolt on bottom of the carb float blow. take that out and you should be able to get a socket on it and take it out.

Thanks for your input. I thought I would have to remove the bowl as a minimum. Either way, it seems that's all I have to do to get at the main jet to change it. Is that correct?

yes that is what i beleave. just put a rag under it to catch all the gas that comes out. if you take the bowl off or take the drain out remeber to turn the gas off. you have alot more gas coming out because the float being wide open.
