fireslayer, its good to know. i always thought the pxt's were only 3 ply.it the slice to big on yours to fix? i had 2 big cuts on my xtr's that i fixed 2 weeks ago w/ plugs and slime and so far they are holding up. which is good since a replacement tire is 128.00. the xl m.lites will be a harder tire and maybe will vibrate. my buddys have mudwisers by pierra and they are close to the m.lites in design and are bad for vibrating and rough handling.

The ACT (BRP/AC) , PXT (Polaris) and Wetlands are all virtually the same and I am positive the Wetlands are 6 ply (says on sidewall).
Its hard to believe they would make the others 3 ply.

I agree with ncrider my 05 800 (900 miles)has the aluminum rims and I have about 6 sidewall cuts, 4 went through. the cuts match up perfectly( they look like a bunch of little smiles on the side wall) with the rim and it does have a sharp edge, the chrome steel rims have a nice rounded edge. has anyone talked to polaris about this? My 01 500 has 2000 miles with no sidewall cuts just a couple nail holes, same exact trails.

I'm reviving this thread because my PXT tires suck, My right rear keeps losing air over night so I pulled it off and took it to the dealer, and it has about 12 pin hole size holes all over the tire, one real bad pin hole that leaks fast on the side wall. the dealer said its from Mesquite tree thorns. so now i need a new tire to replace the one that has less then 300 miles on it.

I had all same problem's with PXT'S, First 20 miles had a sidewall cut that took 4 plugs on trail. I immediatley bought Mudlite XL's and they have been fine with 300 miles and not 1 plug. we ride alot of rocky terrain in WV, I think next time I will go with Bighorns though, just because we do not ride extreme mud mainly trails, rock and gravel roads.

Thats one thing I hate all the companys put the cheapest tire they can find on new atvs look at the yamaha and honda cheap tires.<div class="FTQUOTE"><begin quote>Originally posted by: Fireslayer
OK, I just pulled the stock PXTs off, cleaned them up and weighed them. 17.0lbs. They were both identical weight on a set of digital scales that are accurate to less than 1 oz. I've had my suspicions all along that these tires are light weight tires produced by Carlisle just for Polaris. Please don't get me wrong, I'm not saying these tires are junk, it's just that they are not the right tires for the way I ride and the terrain I ride in. I have no doubt now that they are only 3 ply rated since I've got them off and inspected the sidewalls closely. I am still not settled on what tires I will replace them with. I'm also looking at the AMS Swampfox tires along with the ITP Mudlites and Mudlite XTRs. Is anyone out there running the AMS Swampfox that can comment on them? (May start a new thread for this) Just thought some would be interested in hearing about those differences. i was kind of shocked that there was that much difference.Oh yeah, the PXTs only have around 250 miles on them and are showing very little tread wear, so the low weight is by no means due to wear.</end quote></div>

even though the pxt tire isnt very rugged for a 3 ply tire they are one of the best traction tires out there for a factory tire imo.

PXT (Polaris Xtreme Tire) Great tire for summer trail riding and all around easy going situations, but I don't agree with it being an Xtreme tire if thats what they call it. The first time I took my 800 out, winter of 2005, I rode it across a plowed corn field in the snow at about 35 mph and 5 psi. When I got back to the edge I had bent my stock rims. Those front sidewalls are just really soft and flexable. Not much structure to them.

carlie makes the pxt tire for polaris. its on the bigger and newer sportsmans. i would imagine being a radial tire also has a big effect on the tire having so many issues w/ cuts because ite a softer tire for sure. just imo
