Default Aluminum Wheels

Hopefully someone here can help me. I have a 2006 Polaris Sportsman 500 EFI with the upgraded aluminum wheels. I have been haveing major problems with these aluminum wheels. I had a flat tire the other day so I took the wheel off to bring it to the shop to get fixed. All is well and good, I Got the tire fixed but I goto put it back on and strip the threads off the wheel stud. I double check the torque in the book and it says 90 Ft. Lbs. So I replace the the stud and goto tighten the wheel again with a torque wench and pull the threads off again. I'm not pulling anywhere near 90 Ft. Lbs. and it is ripping the threads off. Has anyone else had a problem like this, is the book wrong and it's not 90 ft. lbs. or am I doing something wrong.

Any help would be greatly apreciated.

90 ft.lb is alot of torque. on my 800 alum. i just hand tighten them w/ a 1/2 drive rachet.

You can put alot of torque on a 1/2 in. drive ratchet. This is very frustrateing because I'm torqueing it to "spec" and it is too much. I, myself thought 90 was too much becuase they are tiny studs. I was hopeing to find a actual number to torque them to because I'm paranoid.

i just checked my 800 book and it says the same thing 90 ft.lb i still only hand tighten and have never had one come loose. ive even lightly put them on w/ my impack wrench and still have never hurt them.i put new studs on my wifes 450 (longer 800 studs) to put my rims on hers and only hand tighten.

Mabye upgradeing to the aluminum 800 wheels requires the longer studs?

wait a minute did you have reg. rims on it them put the alum. on w/out changing studs? the 800 studs are at least 3/8" longer. i checked my 500 book and it says 27FT lb w/ reg rims. ive actually ben tthe rims tightening the lugs.

Yes it was a 500 with steel rims and I paid extra to have the aluminums put on. I have thought the studs seem a little short for the depth of the wheels but didn't think much of it.

i hate to say it but i'll bet they didnt change to longer studs. is it just stripping the end threads like maybe 5 or 6 threads?

Not even it only looks like 3 threads. So I will go in monday to get them to give me new studs. The guy that put the wheels on probable only put them on snug. I'm lucky the wheels didn't rip off. Come to think of it too when I bought the new wheel studs for a "500" the were the same.
