Water Pump Seal, 2000 Scrambler 400 4x4
All,
I have never replaced one of these before, but it looks like I have to remove the motor to get it apart enough so that I can get to the water pump. Anyone have any suggestions or is this correct? I was hoping I could get at it without removing the motor, but I could use some advice.
Thanks

Just as posted above, it can be done without removing the engine from the frame. You'll have to get the seal, the water pump gasket, an engine case gasket, and it wouldn't hurt to replace the two waterpump bearings while you have it apart. One thing that some people get hung up on is the crankshaft nut behine the flywheel and stator. It is a lefthanded nut...lefty tighty, righty loosey. I use a hammer and a 3/8" socket extension to hammer the nut loose. You'll also need some type of puller to get the flywheel off...I used a steering wheel puller.
BTW, are you a park ranger? The rangers up by Eau Claire have an R before their officer number.
