Default 05 Scrambler bearing failure AGAIN!!!!!!!!

Well this is twice that I had a bearign go out on the rear housing. Once was while it was under warrenty and now this time. The only thing I did differently than stock( before the first ride ) is put on a alum skid plate. I always pump grease in the housing so I know its not a lack of lube. when I took it apart there was plenty of grease in the housing. I cleaned up all the bearing riding surfaces and had to buy a new houising as it broke down 7 miles up in the woods in Utah and had to ride it home. the rear bolts that hold the housing tight were'nt loose.. Question????? Can I upgrade the bearing to a SEALED Bearing or ROLLER bearing? Not really to fond up the tapered set up. Anybody have any Ideas? I don't jump the bike but do ride it like it was made to. The axle looks/ seams straight and every thing was in good working order.. OH YAH.... IT'S THE CHAIN SIDE NOT THE BRAKE SIDE BOTH TIMES. I have new polaris bearings/races(timken) in hand but might be able to send back if I go with a sealed better bearing. please add you input and THANKS.

Rick

Within specs evertime I ride. It got loose when the bearing failed and the whole right side slid forward

rad mfg makes a billet houseing with roller bearings for i think 239. it looks bad. mines is tore down for the smae thing as we speak. when you put the big nuts on the houseing to hold it all in can you hold the axle with one hand and move the house back in forth like some slop.

if you want sealed bearings, look into ALL ***** brand bearings. they have sealed bearings available for the scramblers.

I am wondering what could be causing the bearings to go out? this is not a problem
that I had heard of much on the forums, I have 220 hrs. on my 02 scrammy & have
never had to touch the bearings. Maybe something is to tight or not lined up in
the housing? are there any mods that could be causing them to go out, is the chain
lubed up, are u doing any heavy work with it? I sure that they do go out sometimes
but that sounds like alot. It would seem odd if u got bad bearings twice, do the
old bearings show anything any sand, dirt or water? good luck with it!!! let us
know if u find any thing out.

Thats the problem. Everything looks GREAT!!! Well lubed, oiled chain b4 every ride, plenty of grease in housing so the only thing I can think is when the side plate gets banged up a lot and it seems to have a groove wearing in the plate from the chain guard. All I can think is that the chain guard is putting a load on the bearing from the brake guard dragging the skid plate. I'm going to shim the skid plate away from the guard. what does everybody think about ball bearings instead of a tapered bearing ?

Maybe there is too much grease in there and it is putting pressure on the bearing. I don't greese mine all that often and I have a ton of hours on mine

when u put the new bearings in did u go by the service manual, there are torque
settings on the the axle nuts and the hub nut. The bearing set nut must not be
to tight, axle should spin freely but no up & down or side to side play. I dont know
about the ball bearings, is it alot more money to go with this set up?
