Default Long term mileage on 2005-06?

Can anyone post what kind of mileage they have on these machines and what they have had problems with. I am still debating on getting a SP 800, and want to see what everyone is getting on this model of bike from 400 CC to 800CC, it doesn't matter, what kind of problems are happening. I have a 02 Traxter XT with almost 7000 miles on it right now and its been rock solid and for a 2nd bike I want the same with more power and a good ride, and just with the same piece of mind my traxter gives me.
The kind of riding I do is fire roads/trails/mud/water/snow/.

Thanks

I had an 03 scrambler bullet proof quad never had one problem, have an 03 trail boss haven't had any problems change the oil and give it gas. bought an 05 sportsman 700 wife burned her leg from exhuast heat 350 miles dumped it to buy an 05 800 didn't have any problems till about 550 miles was plowing the driveway and the right plastic started to melt polaris put new rear fender and side panel on and it happen again this time they did it again and put a new header on also they said it was bent different to keep the heat away from plastic sold that one 750 miles to buy an 06 model had more heat sheilds on the exhuest doesn't make much change in the heat problem they say they dont have. with some mods made to plastic and such it's not so bad 398 miles so far and no other problems love the ride hate the stupid problems and the run around yuo get from these dealers but polaris says your dealer is your best resorse bull sh#@$$!! I also have 05 500 sportsman front end chlucks when you turn handle bars one way not that bad other than that trouble free! you will never buy a polaris after this story but all in all I stay ontop of the mantience and I love the quads I have. so good luck

I've got over 500 miles on mine since March. No problems at all and no melting plastic. Mine has a nice thick heat tape/pad thing on the plastic where it is closest to the pipe. Do you others with 05 and newer 700s and 800s have the same silver tape I speak of on your plastic? Could be a dealer remedy? It has been working for me so far and was on when I bought it new. I wouldn't say it's slow at all. I can easily get into trouble with it. Brian

Hi Have a 2006 800 with 68 hours I have had no problems whatsoever. Each trip is 125 km through muskeg, mudholes, mountains, streams it gets a good workout but I also maintain it very well. I wash it and grease it after each trip and I change oil in it on a regular basis. My machine has no heat problems that others have had, I have had no melting plastic and my machine does not overheat. I wash out my radiator good after each trip. The Polaris Sportsman rides like a Cadillac has lots of power, I like the lock and ride cargo box which you can take of in about 10 seconds, the only thing I am changing out is the tires, I am going to get 27 Mudbugs because I had them before and they are one tough tire that are excellent in the mud. Polaris 800's have the best stock tire out there but I like the Bugs better. It is stable and I don't get the tippy feeling like I had with my Cat, that thing was no where like a cat. Cats are supposed to land on there feet, the one I had always wanted to flip on his back with his feet in the air. But since then Cat has changed there suspension so I have been told. My suggestion to you would be go look at all the brands out there check out all the benefits each one has to offer and pick one that is in your price range. They are all good but I choose Polaris because it was the best for me and I am not sorry that I did. I would buy another, I have owned 3 Polaris ATV's and I never had any problems with at all, but like I said earlier I maintain my equipment.
