1997 425 magnum
first i enjoy reading your posts and this website.
my 97 425 magnum has started acting up
gas fouling plugs sometimes and other times
running ok. i searched the posts and have done
most what i have read. checked the cam no
problem adjusted the valves. unplugged the black
wire to the reverse limiter thought that fixed it
but its acting up again. checked the diapram on the carb
it looks ok. idles great doesnt smoke? it only has 600
miles. runs of until a load then cuts out could the
coil be bad? any ideas appreciated.

I had a 1996 425 Magnum and it did the same thing. It definitely seems to be a common problem for them. For years I have watched this forum for the fix but have yet seen it - at least in my case I have never found a fix. The only thing I had not replaced was the CDI and Stator (and releated coils). I have no idea if that would have fixed it but I was not ready to spend that kind of money to find out. Like yourself I had looked into the ETC, cam, air filter, fuel filter, needle / needle jet, fuel pump, rev limiter, all that and no luck.
If yours behaved like mine, it would tend to act up more often when it got hot and was worked hard and it would do this out of the blue - one minute it was perfect and then the next it was stumbling, back firing, missing, etc..
If you can ever get it to act up in your garage, slap a timing light on it and see if the spark is eratic. My guess is yes.
Keep us posted of what you find.
