Default Hall Effect Sensor does it have to be changed??

I have a 2001 500SP the speedo needle , trip meter and odometer do not work but the cluster and speedo lights and hour meter do work. My 4wd and reverse overide DO work. If I do not replace my Hall effect sensor does that just mean I live without a trip meter and speedo or should it be changed?

My 02 500ho speedo died after 6 months, then again just sfter warranty expired-the speedo's suck. my 4wd works great-that all i care about. the speedo's are expensive and as long as 4wd works then i don't care.

I agree, I replaced two and my speedo hall sensor did the same thing before it stopped working all together.

Try cleaning the sensor at the rotor on the front right side first, if this don't help there is a testing procedure in the service manual or just get the $50 part
(model year 2002-03 Sportsman 700 p/n 4010298) and replace it yourself, it plugs into the back of the pod speedometer, easy fix.
