Default 80W-90 gear oil - okay in trans?

It has new Polaris AGL fluid and was topped of with the Valvoline 80W-90 gear oil. Is this okay or should it be changed? From what I see everyone recomends bar and chain oil if the dealer is too far away?

80W90 gear oil is not recommended for the transmission as it is too heavy as compared to the Polaris AGL. If you don't want to run the Polaris oil I would use a synthetic motor oil (5w50/0w40) instead of the gear oil...

I think people have used chaincase oil, not bar and chain oil. Definitely don't use Bar and Chain oil it is just crap oil and not meant for a tranny. Why did you top it off, is it leaking, or did you just run low on the AGL.

i wouldnt recommend mixing differnt weight oils in anything unless you have too. 80-90 is only fo rthe rear end.

The Valvoline is too viscous and you should never mix synthetics with regular lubes. The AGL synthetic should be used in both the trans and the rear dif. 80w/90 is too viscous for the rear dif also.

unless its changed in 2 yrs between your 04 and my 06 the book says to use 80-90 gear oil if you dont have the synthetic oil for the rear end.
