Trail Boss 330 Jetting
#1
I discovered that removal of the airbox top results in such an overly lean condition that the thing will not run above idle. This can only mean more potential power with proper airflow mods.
Has anyone here jetted the trail boss for a modified airbox top? If so, what did you use.
The dynojet kit is for a stock airbox with a K+N filter. However, it clearly is the airbox snorkel that is so restrictive on this machine.
TIA,
Chris

I used a K&N filter with FMF powercore slip on and rejetted it. It was like a whole new bike. It would smoke the sp400. Before the mods the 400 would smoke the 330. RCR knows alot about the 330 motor. You can get a cam and all kinds of mods for it.

OK, thanks.
I have to keep the quad quiet, so an aftermarket exhaust is probably not a good option. Maybe I could find a very large automotive style muffler that is non restrictive.
In any case, I was simply thinking about replacing the tiny snorkel with a much larger fabricated one. The jetting would be too lean, as the snorkel is the restriction. I have plenty of aviation flexible tubing at work, and it would be perfect for the job. Or I could just cut 4ea. one inch holes in the airbox top. If I plan on riding water, cork them up with something like a boat drain plug.
I am certain that some carb jetting along with airflow mods would assist power output. It would be nice to have a bit more throttle response. Drilling the slide and installing a softer spring would help.
