My father just bought a 99 sportsman 500 and in reverse it sputters and runs horrible. This also happens on his 99 250 trailblazer. He can hardly back out of anything that has resistance.

DOes anyone know why it does this and how to remedy this once and for all. Thanks for the help

Hold down your override button, it's a safety feature for it to miss in reverse so you won't go too fast. It sounds to me, like it's working as designed.

It simply amazes me how often this question is asked. Do the dealers talk to these folks at all ? How can you own and operate something and not know what all the buttons do ?

Adams44, I'm not trying to get on your case or anything, but haven't you even looked at the owners manual ? Does it not ring a bell that it runs bad in reverse, and there is a button that says "reverse override" ?

You say that it's a 99, so I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you bought it used, and didn't get a manual. But, if you bought it from a dealer, and seeing that your in Indianapolis, PLEASE tell me who you bought it from.

Well, I'm over my rant now. Excuse me. Today is my 15th wedding anniversary, and I'm feelin' kinda cranky. Sorry.

I have only been Married for 2 years and with my wife for about 4 but I have to say that married life (for me at least) has been nothing but awesome. It's nice to have somebody that cares for you more than they care about themselves and it's nice to reciprocate that. Not trying to get all corny on you guys but I felt obligated to jump in and say that marraige is not necessarily a bad thing (let alone a prison sentance)for everybody. Sorry it didn't work out for you guys. I know you are probably (hopefully) kidding around somewhat, but don't scare the younger guys

It was hard enough to convince my wife to let me spend big bucks on my quads...imagine having to go through that all again with a new woman!

I will stick with the one I have...she understands my "quad-fanatic" side...

Thanks for the simple help buckeye400. Since I don't ride, nor have I seen it, I assumed the override was to start it in gear, like a clutch switch.

I don't know what the hell is wrong with my fellow hoosier, we aren't all like that. Not that I need to explain myself to him, but the button says "override" not "REVERSE override" on the Scrambler or on the Trailblazer, and no, I don't believe that is obvious.

Thanks, again.
