Default Speed affected by using 4 wheel drive?

I'll try to keep this fairly brief. I am 43 years old and in a wheelchair for 24 years from a motorcycle accident. My 66 year old father was up from Florida last week and he and I got to go riding togther for the first time since I crashed in 82. We were a family that rode together intil then. While my father and I were up to Maine last week he rode my uncle's Magnum 425 and I rode my 06 Trailblazer. As soon as wee hit the straightaway we looked at each other and without saying a thing both started racing like we did in the old days. Until a few weeks ago he never even new I had bought an atv. Anyways I won by 5 lenghts or so. My father said he was in 4wheel drive and I was wondering if that is why I won. Does that cause the Magnum to have a slower top speed or is that thing even slower than my Trailblazer? I am probably 60lbs lighter than him too.

I'm no expert, but it makes sense to me that if you're driving 4 wheels over two, then it will take more power to do so. I know the shaft and running gear is always spinning anyway, but you're basically taking the power from the engine and directing it two ways through the gear box. I've never tried going really fast in 4wd on mine, so I have no "real" idea if it would slow me down any.

It dosen't make a differnce if in 4 wheel drive or 2 wheel on a Polaris atv. The front wheel only work when there is slipping of the rear tires an then when they stop slipping it is back in 2 wheel drive. There is power sent to the front driveshaft all the time.

trail blazer is alot lighter machine and 2 stroke for better response. my wifes 00 went about 40 or so so the magnum is alot heavier w/ not much top speed, and x scram. is right, it doesnt make any differnce if the bike is in awd or not to reach top speed. it doesnt slow it down either way.

was your trailblazer a 250 or 400? this would be useful info in your question. mainly because they stopped making the 400 in 03 i believe? and the 250 stopped in 05.

If you're on soft surface I always find the person who is in 4wd usually gets out of the hole faster and the other person spins. If the machines are an equal match then the person who gets better traction off the start will win in my book.

My friend use to own a Magnum 425 and it would top out at 55mph. I remember we were on a railroad bed when we hit 55, according to the speedometer. There must be something wrong with the Magnum if it is getting beat by the TB 250. Remember the bigger Magnum is way quicker than the 325 or 330. A TB400 would obviously stomp a Magnum 425, but a 250 should not be winning by 5 lengths.

Oversize tires were bashing into my fenders when hitting hard bumps. They were on there along with wheels extenders when I bought the bike used. I'm not sure what kind of riding the previous owner did, but it didn't work for me where I was riding. The stock tire size just works better in the tight rough trails that I ride on. I will say that, the previous ITP tires were some mean looking suckers!

I have driven a sportsman with the 425 and I have to say it was pretty slow...definately not 55mph, at least not if you were to GPS it. I know our 250 Trailblazer would take it...especially with a lighter rider.
