Oil Pump Prime

I had the oil out of my 03 Sportsman 500 for several days. In the manual it warns against this due to loss of oil pump prime. I remember reading something about pinching a hose. Can somebody clarify this?

If it's the same procedure as my 2006, then click HERE for how to do it. The hose that you need to pinch is the one at the top of the oil tank.

is this for the 500 only, or all sportsmans?
