Default starting problems

This is my first Polaris atv and I have a little problem. Its a 2002 sportsman 500 ho and the starter will only turn the
engine over if I use the pull rope to get it to the decompression cycle of the engine.I put in a new battery and
rebuilt the starter and its still doing the same thing.Could the starter solinod be weak.Any body have any ideals
of what it could be.

When it doesn't start what does it do? Does it make any kind of noises?

Ha Cormacs!
After it starts you hear the starter gear shaft(bendex think) makes a little noise but for just a split second as it kicks out of the flywheel and after that all is normal.

thanks

Had the same problem on my timberwolf. I did all of things you did also and it still ended up being the starter. I put a new one in and now it turns over like it should. Hope this helps.

Thanks bigpiper1
I was kinda leaning that way that there may be something wrong with the internal workings of the starter.

thanks
