Scrambler 500 top speed question
#1
I changed the primary spring to a Dalton "black white"..I now seem to have loss a lot of top end speed?? the machine tops out at like 45 know instead of like 55-60. I was woundering if you can adjust the clutch so that a can get some of my top end back?? or is this normal? Please help.
Thanks!

THe spring shouldnt have caused any lose in speed. What is your secndary set at?
Have you checked the airfilter? When my filter starts to get dirty I will loose some topend.

bongload. Have you checked your clutch for full shiftout. There are two ways to do this. One is by comparing speed to engine RPM. The second is by marking the primary to verify how high the belt rides. Often it happens that a clutch modification results in great hole shot, but loss in speed because the clutches never make it to full shift. I know nothing about the colors of the springs (for your quad) and I would definitely listen to ftwflh as he is the expert. But not reaching full shift often happens when playing with the clutching.

Full shiftout for the dalton black n white is not that high that it is gonna affect top speed. Something else is wrong
1. did you change weights? heavier ones will load the engine up and not get full shiftout.
2. was the secondary changed to a heavier setting.
3. is your belt shot
4. is your clutch still aligned
5. are your clutch cover vents plugged (intake exhaust)
6. airfilter dirty? (previous post)
7. ventline from tank kinked
other than that not too sure something is not right though
Good luck
