How to attach stuff to 06 racks
#1
I bought a 06 500 and I am having a tuff time coming up with a way to tie down stuff to these racks. Do I have to buy the rack extenders to be able to tie things down???
Has anyone come up with DIY methods of creating attachment points.
Also has anyone used other cargo boxes besides Polaris?

I think the rack extenders are well worth the $. also the Polaris cargo box is worth the $ as well.
I have used coolers and Rubbermaid totes as cargo boxes in the past but you must use a rattacht strap to hold them down.

After a ride or two with my 500HO I broke down and bought the racks, I was thinking of fab'in up a set but after getting a $100 gift card from Polaris I used that to buy the racks. I think i shelled out a 20 or 30 spot also.
The racks are totally worth it. I use my back one to bungee down the rear box. and the front one to hold my flat fuel pack.
I like my 500HO the only thing that I hate about it is the rack system. The front storage box is wonderful. It holds a ton of stuff for me, 2 tow ropes, air compressor, bottle of slime, batteries for gps, tire repair kit, med kit, tool kit. I was told by the dealer it would hold about 10 beers if properly placed, her it even has a built in cooler drain! I wish the front and rear racks were like the Hondas or BRP's the metal tubing where you can snap a bungee under the rack. The rear rack hardly has any spots to attach a bungee cord. The "C" channel is one spot and if you want under the rim of the plastic.
I also got a front bumper, I looked at it this way, I spent 6g on a machine, hey whats another $1000 in accessories right .
Garmin gps $300.00
Front Bumper $140.00
Warn 3.0 w/ synthetic & mount $500
Flat fuel pack $80
Tamarack Box $200
Temp gague $50.00
Soon to have,
Glacier Plow
Stihl chain saw MS 210 $250.00 (<---- If the wife reads this,, good xmas present )
Chain saw holder $50.00
Rims $??.??
Oh yeah and a empty wallet! But its worth it...

Also if you are looking for more attachment points to your racks, I use a few of those small carribeaner hooks (SP). They are like this.. They are a quick on and off.. I have a half dozen in my box. They work pretty good. Beats trying to battle with the "C" channel crap for the lock and ride..

What a pain in the a$$ the polaris rack system is. I really like the flat surface, however it is nest to impossible to hook anyhting to them.
I got mad enough and went and bought the rear rack extender. Why should I have to add hundreds of dollars worth of extras just so I can use my bike???????????
Where do you hook the caribeaners and what system was uesd for the fuel rack I am desperate as I want to go hunting this weekend and do want to have to take my honda that will not go through any mud or go over any blowdown.
What would happen if I drilled holes and attached some bolts with eyes???

You would have a rack with holes and bolsts with eyes. I seriously don't have any problem tying stuff down. The bike has plenty of storage compartments and I have the l n r box with bags and a treestand rack hanging off of the back. But I have carried them on the racks with no issues other that scratching the plastic. What I'm curious about is how far do ya'll ride that you need a fuel pack. I can't ride out a tank of gas in a day, even plowing foodplots.
