Transmission

Allright so I baught my scrambler about 3 weeks ago, the 4x4 didn't work and there was a cunking noise coming from the machine when you would hit the gas hard. So i the chevrolet dealership a baught it from said they would have it fixed and braught it to one of there local polaris shops. I called them today and said it would be done this week or next, it needed a hole new transmission and they baught a brand new one from polaris to have installed. I rode the machine a few times and by no means did i think it needed that. I mean its all good there paying for it so its all good im getting a brand new tranny. Are the transmissions week on these things or somthing i mean its a 2002 shouldn't the tranny have a bit more life then that? Im thankful the chevy dealer is paying for all this because im sure its gonna cost a decent amount, lol not sure why they are paying for it because i don't think they realy have to, i guess there just trying to be a good business. Hopefully everything is done correctly and i get it back without any problems. Figured out i would post this see what you guys thought about it......Have a good one!!

TELL THE SHOP YOU WANT THE OLD TRANNY.The only thing that will make them clunk is a bad chain inside the tranny. And it isnt hard or expensive to repair even if you have to put in new shift forks you can rebuild it for less than $200.I would bet it asnt even bad just may have needed a new front drive sprocket.

No "core charge"that I am aware of.One thing to take note of is MOST DEALERS ARE CROOKS and will try to take you to the bank.NOT ALL but most.

One thing that breaks the 4x4 tranny is getting them in reverse on loose terrain and then hitting the gas hard. The rear end is going to turn a little before the front kicks in and it creates a hard jarring in the trans which can break them pretty easily. Otherwise they are pretty tough.

I think what he is saying, as I do this also, take it easy in reverse until you feel the trans "kick in". Once you feel it,(very noticible) you should be good!
