Default Newbe needs help with cv boot

Hi all as you can see this is my first post here, I was just a lurker till today. I recently bought my self a 05 sportsman 800 and after bringing it home I noticed the front inner cv boot was torn. I?ve removed the drive axel from the machine and now I am trying to figure out how to get the inner splined end off so I can put the new boot on. In my Polaris manual it says to give it short quick pulls but I think they are referring to the out cv joint?am I right.? Or do I need to pull the outer cv apart to change the inner boot? I wouldn?t think so.

Any help would be appreciated as I would like to get out on my new toy. I?ve only drove it onto and off of my truck so far.

Thanks,
Greg

I think that should be all you do, If I remember right, I had one accidentally fall out on me during a different repair. Should not be too difficult to get off!

I have not had to replace the front inner boot but I believe there is a ring clip that you have to expand to get the CV off. Have you tried to clean the CV joint? If you clean the grease out you should see the clip.
