Default 2001 4x4, how does it work?

I have an 01 325 Xpedition.
One front wheel will engage when in 4x4 and the other will not, the axle spins all the way to the axle nut.
I took it apart and found a wire leading down the strut to somewhere and I also found that the roll cage had a groove worn into it and that the plate behind it was bent and worn as well.

My question is: If I replace the worn components, will it work or is there some king of electrical problem?

Thank You,
Daniel

it sounds electrical ,but i would still replace the worn parts if there bad b4 they break and you get stranded somewhere or has no damage. just a guess though.

a groove wore in the hardened steel ring inside the hub housing wow i've never seen that happened must have ran out of oil. the other peice you are refering to is the armature plate. replace it two. and check for a broken wire going down to the strut

I hope you may be able to help me if you are good with the AWD system.
I have a 2001 scrambler AWD that has been acting up or about 6 months.
It some times will stall as soon as put in reverse if the reverse over ride
switch is not pushed. The 4wd does not work also. When I first bought the
machine new it had the same problem and the dealer replaced some switch
and had no problems for 5 years.
I took the switch off the transmission, checked the conector for corrision and
sprayed contact cleaner in the switch assy itself but same problem.
Do you know if this is the switch that causes this problem ?
Thanks for you help !!!
Tom

I have about the same problem with a 98 Sportsman 500. The front left will work on occasion. The right has not worked since I bought it (used). When I press the 4x4 button it lights up like it is in 4x4, but most of the time the front end does not pull.

answers??

I am now having the same problem that w/ my 2001 AWD Scrambler 500.

It just started doing it. It backfires loudly and starts to die, and has no power.

Is there a quick fix?
