Default Tip: DIY Clutch Puller

For all you guys and ladies who are to cheap to buy a clutch removal tool, or should I say frugal. You can easily and cheaply make your own. Go to your local Ace Hardare store and buy 9" peice of 3/4" ready rod with 2 nuts to fit the same. (Use Fine Thread) Take the 2 nuts and tighten against each other on one end and you are ready to pull your clutch. It is a bit long winded because it is threaded all the way but it works great. I have used it on all of my Polaris quads.

All you are doing is making a long bolt that will bottom out on the crankshaft. The 2 nuts tightened against each other on one end become the bolt head so you can put a wrench on it. The clutch is threaded on the inside. Once you have screwed it in til it bottoms out, it will take about an 1/8 turn and the clutch pops off. Of course if you can find a 9" long fine thread 3/4 inch bolt you do not have to go to all the trouble of making your own!

I hope this clarifys things abit

I just wait till winter, put the bike on it side and pour water into the center of the clutch and thread a bolt into the clutch, push the bike outside, have a beer or two and walk out to find the clutch on the ground lol. Hope i never need to pull the clutch in the summer lol

Well, I can say that I just did hat you said about 3/4" rod. No good, It goes about one thread then locks up. The pitch is obviously different when I investigated the situation! Any other ideas? I didn't see any 3/4" fine thread!

Woops! Sorry I should have stated in my original post to use fine thread. It was all that was available at my local Ace Hardware so go figure. I guess I owe you one and probably a few others also.

Got my fine thread. I'll be swaping clutches when I get home! Don't worry about the whoops! Not a big deal!
