Help! '96 Polaris tranny rubbing against cover?
Hi, new here. I bought a '96 polaris trail boss automatic about a month ago. I've started to get this rubbing sound, almost like a tire was rubbing. It only happens when I make a hard right hand turn and shift weight to the left side. I checked and double checked anything I could think of to no avail. I've finally figured out where the noise is coming from I think. Its coming from inside the plastic transmission cover, like something is shifting or moving causing something in the transmission (don't know what it would be) to rub against the cover from the inside. I've yet to remove the cover but I don't know what to look for when I do, not the most knowledgeable about atvs yet. Thanks for any help.

I have a 96 explorer that just started doing the same thing,I removed the plastic clutch cover and started the engine and it seems that the clutch at idle is coming out to far and hitting the cover. If anyone out there can shed some light on this it would be great.

kmt, I got a response on a different forum and the guy said that the belt covers can warp from the heat and cause the rubbing also. He said a new cover should fix it. I haven't bought a new one yet because I still haven't actually taken the cover off yet, haven't been home for awhile.
