Another starting problem
#1
Hi, New here. Have 2004 Sportsman 500t and run it every 4 weeks or so at cabin. Last weekend it would not start (plenty of battery but did not fire) I gave up and tried next morning, still no luck. On a whim I pulled the pull start and it started right away. The rest of the weekend was the same (no start by key but sart on pull) Any thoughts before I drag it into the dealer?
Thanks.
Thanks.

sounds almost like the switch is bad some how maybe croded from sitting and not letting the power jump to all termials on the switch but its just a guess but i would start there and check.

Thanks.
When I re-read my post ....what I meant to say was there is pleanty of battery (meaning it turns over very strong) ... what I can't understand is how is turns over strong with key, but will not fire. But when I pull, it fires right away.

Hey,
My last "bump". A lot of you guys have read and either I am not making sense or you all think I am a goof (which could be).
Can anyone think of any reason that when you try to start with key (good power in battery) it cranks and cranks and does not fire, but first pull from pull start, it goes. I am trying to think if one way I had thottle pressed and another not....not sure.
Looks like trip to dealer. Not fun only up ther ervery 3 weeks or so, hard to get in and out.
Thanks for taking a look.
I will let you all know how it turns out.
Thansk and great forum...best of what I have seen

Have you tried to put the battery on a charger. My 04 Sportsman (which I just traded off) did the same thing. Seemed to crank fine, but would not start. Would, however, pull start with ease. Put the battery on the charger when got home and let it charge overnight. Started fine with the key after that. Not sure if that is your problem, but it worked for me....

could try putting a tester (volt) and seeing what it puts out while turns over and see what the volts are and if it drops off alot then it wouldnt have enough to fire it but still would turn it over.
