OK I got the 2 washers replaced and put everything back together and it still does the same thing..... I do see when it is running the belt is riding on top of the sprage and it creeps, then while it is still running i move the belt so it runs in the sprage grooves and it is fine. I do see at this time that shimming the secondary will take care of my problem, (by moving the belt away from the inner sheave) but i dont feel that it will last long. also does anyone know what size shim to put in the secondary? thanks again

 

Seems that if the belt is not properly aligned, as you said yours isn't, it will cause problems. i do not know why Zbart1 said that this is a temp fix. Unless the engine or trans move, the belt angle will not be affected, once it is setup correctly. As for how much clearance, that is hard to say, without seeing it. I "THINK" 2 shims is usually the most needed, I could be wrong though!
