Default 2001 scrambler 500 4x4 AWD problem

I have a intermittant problem with the AWD system ingaging on my Scrambler.
It sometimes stalls when put in reverse unless the override switch is held and
the awd does not always work.
When new it was returned same day for warranty with the same problem and
a switch was replaced and im not sure what it was.
It has been ok for the last 5 years.
Any one have any ideas ?
Thanks
Tom

Don't let the hp numbers fool you. Its all in how you get it to the ground. Clutching clutching clutching!

You have a reverse limiter going bad.You can bypass it by unplugging the black wire coming out of the box.

If your speedometer is acting weird at all, its the speed sensor on the front right hub. If not then ftwflh has probably got it.

There is no speedometer. Is there still a speed sensor?
I have had both hubs apart and don't remember seeing
any sensor.
Thanks for the reply

I ride with a(Canadian version) 2000 500 scrambler and it has the same speedometer and has the sensor on right front wheel as I do. The sensor on the right front wheel is called a "Hall Effect" mine does not work but it only works the speedo's speed needle, trip meter and odometer, only the hour meter works without it.
It does not effect the running of my bike in anyway so I dought thats your problem.

I just noticed, but I guess in the States a Speedo is a option on a Scrambler. That weird because on a Sportsman 500 a speedometer is required for the operation of the AWD system.
