qiuck question about a two stroke
#1
Do I need to oil the filter on a two stroke motor, just the foam part or the paper and foam?
I got it running from yesterday,it was a fouled plug.He says that for the break in period,I am running double oil to the gas mix.How long is the break in period?
Everyone that seen my posts last night knows that I don't really know a whole lot about two strokes.I have a four stroke utility, but this 2 stroke is my wifes.

in you have a paper filter, DO NOT oil it. its a dry filter w/ a filter screen around it that you can take off and wash whn dirty. you do not wash the paper filter just take it off and bang out the dirt. no more then 2 tanks of gas for break in but if your running double oil and injection your going to have problems.

No oil injection at all.I drained it.I would like to unplug it.That's how I ended up having it rebuilt b/c the oil injection hose came off and was not noticed in time to catch it.I bought torn down,so I got cheap, dirt cheap.
Thanks

20 hrs is the typical break in for a 2 stroke engine. make sure u change ur trasmission oil every 3 rides and make sure ur air filter is clean. u do that, and ur top end rebuild will be a long way away.

Dude where do you get "changing the tranny oil every 3 rides"?
A Polaris tranny is seperate from the motor and only needs changing once a yr or after you get in DEEP water.
You can get a 2stroke broke in good in a few hrs if you do it right.Do a search for breakin procedures.
If you have the stock paper filter do not oil it or the foam prefilter.
I really dont like the idea of elliminating the oil injection but if you do premix @40:1 ratio no more or you will foul every plug you put in.

On my 400 scrammy I fallowed the old rulle of thumb with the weisco pistons....three warm up and cool down cycles followed by a good check on the fluids and plug...then rod it for the first couple tanks of gas kinda easyer on it..meaning i wasn't railing it for long periods like i usualy do. ftwflh was the one that gave me the tips on the warm up and cool down cycles for breakin...these guys know their stuff!!!!! Tat2d good luck and lets see some pics...lol
