-03 700 with worn lifters
#1
Hi
After a long time of searching, I saw that the two hydraulic lifters on the exhaust valves was grinded down on the camshaftside. There was a 6mm (1/4") deep "hole" in them. The oil was full of metal, and I had to change it 5 times to get rid of it. I changed all 4, but the inlet`s where fine. Finely I started it up, and it ran for 1 hour, and then started to puff and cheat in mid revs.
What could have caused this grinding, and what do I do now? Could the oilpressure be to low?
Thank`s in advance.
Henning

Henning is sounds like you are mechanically competent. It would save you allot of headaches if you were to purchase an owners manual. It states oil pressures, torques cam replacement procedures, compression specs ..... I have one for my 800 and it's easy to understand and clarifies the dozens of questions that come up when diagnosing internal engine problems.
My understanding is that the wear that you observed on the lifter is equaled to the wear on the cam. Root cause could be oil pressure but could also be a blocked oil galley (hole) in the cam itself. The cam is probably scrap but the manual would give you the dimensions you need to prove this.
Just my advice
