Improved CVT clutching for Sportsman in the future?
#1
Anyone think Polaris will offer the clutch setup that is on the Hawkeye on the Sportsman in the future?
For those who don't know, the Hawkeye has a "starting clutch" that engages instantly off idle. The belt is always tight so there is zero lag. I love the set up on the wife's hawkeye. I much prefer the clutching on the Hawkeye to my sportsman, but maybe offer a low range on the sportsman as the Hawkeye doesn't have Low, but I haven't found the need for Low yet with the bike.
It looks to be a clutch setup similar to Yamaha's Ultramatic, which I like as well.
I'd love to see it on a Sportsman as the only thing I don't like about my Sportsman is the lag.

Is that new clutch setup like Yamahas in that you can't smoke the belt or it is very difficult to smoke a belt? This is an interesting idea you brought up, and if they switched to this setup on the SPs' and added low gear I think it would be a great idea.

I can't make the Hawkeye burn the belt. So it does make it far less likely to burn the belt. In my opinion it is far better than the sportsman, and I have both.
