I recieved them on Thursday and man these are nice looking struts. I removed the stock ones and compared them. When compressed (harder on the Works)the stockers slowly come back to normal..at different rates! The Works just popped back up quickly.

I just went out and tried them but it was freezing so I could not really test them out to the extreme. They are definately stiffer than stock but seem to absorb much, much better. I will let you all know after my next long ride.

What other suspension mods do you have on your Scrambler? How would you rate each mod? What did each mod cost?

Capt, I started out with the HotSeat Dual-rate springs. An amazing difference even with stock struts. I could hit the whoops twice as fast and coming off of little jumps fealt smoother. I bought them off of someone here on the forum, the infamous Scramblered himself. New, they cost 299$ front and rear springs. Worth every penny.

As for the rear I had the misfortune of getting the springs for the 99 model which are a couple inches shorter. To compensate, I took the small original spring off the stock set-up and stuck it on top of the new stack. A custom triple-rate. It actaully works much better than stock so I will keep it that way. Bumps get soaked up much better and less hunting back and forth.

As you know, today I installed the Works front struts.(239$) I said to myself: "why not spend a bit more and go all the way..." They are definately better than stock but I have not had enough time to thoroughly test em' out!

I would love to get the Works set-up for the rear...but it ain't cheap.(499$ to 739$ total package) For that much money I could get 10% of a new Raptor payed off...

Now if only I could get used to shifting...and all those levers! Naaaaa.........

Thanks for the info. The springs are a little above my Christmas budget, but the Struts aren't too bad. I was looking at a 39PWK carb and it's about the same price. But speed ALWAYS comes first ( What's that lever on the left handle bar for again? ). And besides, the fron tires on mine must be full of helium, they NEVER want to touch that ground...

Xplor, have you tried out the new struts yet?

I was considering buying the softer replacement springs from Polaris, but then I saw your post about the Hot Seat springs.

I was riding in the snow last week and my struts would not move. I guess they were frozen, but the thing rides like an ATC 185. They are thawed now, but you are right, the rebound on the stock struts is slowww.

Any suggestions you have would be appreciated.

pairof98s,

I noticed a he** of a difference when going over to the dual rate HotSeat springs. Handling in the bumps was 10x better. I installed the Works shocks right before the big snowstorm up here and am most likely going to test them out tomorrow again. I will let you know. They are much better than stock for sure but I think they are a bit stiff and need to be broken in.

If ever you decide to get dual rates and want the Works too, call Pierre at Works and he knows of two other companies that make dual rate set-ups for the sport/scrambler. He knew nothing of HotSeat but has worked with another high performance company before, with a dual rate suspension setup to go with his struts. He says they are great.

I had my first good ride with the works struts on Sunday. Rocky Beach, gravel tracks, and grass farm tracks. The new strust made a huge difference, even with the stock struts. They worked best once the speeds got up a little. I had just put a 270 main jet in, and it was to rich, so couldn't fang as hard as i would have liked. Let me re-phrase that - the bike wouldn't fang as hard as I was fanging it!

Through the woops on a gravel track, the shocks just soaked them up. I am used to getting back on the seat and using the rear shock as much as possible in that type of situation. This timg, the rear shock was letting the team down. Staying netural on the bike worked best (staying on the bike worked even better, but that is another story!)

Ride ended with me thinking I have to get the dual rate springs, and a small loan for the Works Rear honey. If the difference is as great as it is with the front, I will gladly pay the cookie required.

Where can you get the Works shocks from? They have a website?

Thanks!

Works has a site: www.worksperformance.com

The Joka: I noticed one thing with my set-up though. The Works struts are somewhat longer than stock and the HotSeat dual rate springs are a tad shorter, so a spacer is needed for it to work right. I actually added 2 more of the washers at the base of the spring. I may need one or two more since the springs feel loose when in the air. I will most likely have something permanent made this winter or weld the 4 washers together.

That is why I suggested to pairof98s to call Pierre over at Works for the other manufacturer of the dual rate springs. I am pretty sure he told me they had done some racing quad suspension together before.

I am using the stock springs, and they are to short by about an inch when the wheels are in the air (frequently!) They springs rattle and ping as they seat back when compressed. I was looking at the Hot Seat springs, but if they are to short, I will keep trying. I have e-mailed Works (Pierre) to see what suggestions they can make for me. Other than that I thought I might get a friend at PEP to cobble a tripple rate from something else that might suit.
