Front Suspension Difference '05-'06 Sportsman 800
#1
Hello, I have a 2005 sportsman 800 and was looking to put the EPI heavy duty springs or MV7 springs on the front due to sagging springs (winch, brushguard, plow mount). I have a line on some MV7 springs which is my first choice. I called EPI to ask why they do not list 2005 heavy duty springs for sportsman 800. They only list front springs for the 2006 sportsman 800. Their response was the front suspension for the 2006 was changed and they had not tested the springs on the 2005 model therefore they would/could not recommend them. My question is this. What changed in the front suspension of the 800 from 2005 to 2006. According to the microfiche at Ronnies website there is 2 different parts numbers of the oem front suspension springs from '05 to '06. Will the 2005 front MV7 springs and/or the 2006 EPI front heavy duty springs fit the front of the 2005 800 sportsman? I know this issue has been a hot topic lately but from what I have read it has all been 2004 and 2006 models.

From what I know about Sportsmans, they are the same. A different spring rate would obviously be a different p/n. If you are looking to "lift" the front, an MV spring will not do it. They are the same length. The trick on older Sportsmans, of putting scrambler springs on it, will not work anymore either!

I am not looking to lift the front just get rid of the sag with the extra weight (winch, brushguard, plow mounting bracket) on the front. I wanted to make sure the EPI or MV7 springs would fit since they have a higher spring weight.

I am also looking into getting springs for the front of my 700. Someone told me that polaris sells heavy duty front springs and there is a company that makes front spring adjusters: www.t-m-2.com

I talked to EPI a little while ago and I asked them about the 05-06 issue. They told me that several 05 owners have put the EPI spring on and it works fine. I ordered a set so if they are wrong they're getting them back.

2006 sp 800 front spings and 2005 sp 800 springs should be the same size and length.
Polaris changed the springs and struts fron the 2004-2005 model where they added 20% travel.
I do not thick they added the new longer springs or mounts to the MV7.
Aftermarket springs for the 2006 sp 800 shoulde fit the 2005 and from what I can tell the 2005 and 2006 800 came with the same parts from the factory.
800s should have a 13.52 inch spring in the front. with a 184.7mm strut.
2004 sp and I believe the MV7 have the 153.8mm strut.

I checked the polaris website and the "support, strut" and "strut" are the same part numbers for the 2005 800 sportsman and 2005 MV7. I have made my decision to go with the MV7 springs and the spring adjusters from t-m-2. Mario from t-m-2 has been excellent to deal with. Top notch customer service. I know it sounds like overkill but I load a lot of stuff on my 800 and I have a 60" moose that is very customized. I have two 45 pound weights I can add to the plow in case there is a very wet snow, ice or dirt that needs pushed. I was going to go with EPI but I figure the MV7 springs will probably be really stiff at first but will eventually "sag" and be just about right. Thanks to everyone for their input, help and replies.
