help with 98 xpress 300 shift problem
#1
I own a 98 300 xpress and have had alot of trouble out of it. I have in the last 8 months replaced the starter-solenoid-new piston/rings .5 and rebuit the carb. And now it starts easily and runs great but after putting 3 tanks of gas through it I now have a problem with it going into reverse. When I try to shift it into reverse it just clicks. i have checked the idle and even thou it sounds fine I idled it down real low and it still will only engage into reverse 1 out of 10 times. The rest of the times it just clicks and the shifter vibrates. Does anyone think it may just need adjustment or is there something wrong internally.

Ok well I adjusted my shift linkage today about 3 times and all I can get out of the reverse/hi rod is one or the otheir. I adjust one full turn towards reverse and no hi gear. So I turned it back 1/2 turn and no reverse. But I think my problem might be in the gear selector box that the rods connect to and has the shift handle on it. When I shift it to reverse it goes all the way in and then slides back out a 1/4' before it catches. I tried this with the rods not attached. So I think its in the selector. then I call the dealer to get a price and they can not get the hole unit but I can order every part inside of it. So has anybody ever took apart there gear selector and knows how to rebuild it. If so please give me a run down I would really like to get this fixed so I can hunt with it this season. I have had alot of trouble out of this polaris and would like to end my journey of having a usable quad. thanks alot
