Default Need Advice 500 700 or 800

I need some advice or opinions to help me make a decision on what to buy. I am going to buy an ATV but I am unsure of which size to purchase. I will be using it mainly for work on my small horse farm. I plan to haul a mini manure spreader with it and also plow snow and use a dump bucket. I may also use it for disking up land to plant etc. I will also use it for trail riding. My question is what would suit me best the 500, 700, or 800. I am just wondering what the pros and cons are of each one and are the bigger ones worth the extra money. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Default Need Advice 500 700 or 800

JTR, I guess it really depends on how heavy the spreader or disc harrow are? I have pulled a 2500 lb. chipper with my 500 X2 but wouldn't recommend it for a long period of time. Probably would wear the belt prematurely. For common riding and ATV sized trailers, I can't see needing more power than the 500 has, but the more the merrier. I think if you can afford the 700 or 800 go for it. The only other difference is top speed and that the 500 will get better gas mileage than the 700 or 800. Hope this helps.

Default Need Advice 500 700 or 800

I personally love the 500 for an all around machine. Its got all the power you'll need and it seems to be alittle bit more controlable and not quiet as snappy. If you are leaning between the 700 and 800, I'd go ahead and get the 800. It to me seems to be a little more easy to control than the 700. The power is awsome. An X2 no would be my preferred choice. They can turn sharper than a regular atv because of the turf mode (One wheel drive). The longer wheel base gives it a better ride and is more stable on hills by a long shot. The rear box dumps and changes to a 2up in just a few seconds and the ability to pull greater weight without spinning is a plus for working. Yes, they are alittle more pricey but they are worth it. I had a chance to ride a 800 X2 and boy was the power nice. I wasn't worried about tipping going up steep hills and you could just hold the throttle in one place the torque was so good. the power was very predictable too. Hope this helps. Ride them all and check them out.

I second that motion on the 800. I started quadding on a 500 H.O. Traded that in for a 700 Twin, then sold that off to get a race quad. Got back into the 4X4 scene with a 500 EFI, and traded up to an 800 within the first two months of owning it. Thinking of the lessons I've learned...go with the 800.

If you can afford the 800...You question is answered.

Buy the 800 and you will never have to wonder what it would be like to have the 800.

I have to agree with the majority, go with one of the big bores, based on the accessories your planning on using.

the 800 is hard core, i pulled my dads 7500 pound truck down our 200 yard drive way with it with ease (any heavy work, make sure you use LOW!!)

i eventaully sold my 800 to get a sport quad, and i love my predator, but the 800 is a beast.

After test riding the 800 I went ahead and bought the 800 Stealth and 800 Browning edition. I was leaning on getting a 500EFI for my hunting rig, but I just didn't think I could live with the lack of low-end snap. When you hit the throttle on the 800, it goes, whereas the 500's tend to be sluggish at take off.

You can always grow into the power of an 800, but a 500 will never be an 800 even with a bunch of mods, then you sacrifice reliability. I've learned my lesson, go with the big bore.

The 500 will pull as much as the 800 BUT the 800 will pull it lots easier.

true to an extent, but there is nothing wrong with the 500, its easy on gas and a very very reliable motor, perfect for work. its just if you want more power.
