i noticed today that when u hit the button for my winch it still works even with the key off.i know i wired it up right. i dont think its very good for them to do that because if something shorted out it could possibly catch your quad on fire and burn your house or garage down

 

you didnt wire it up right. you wired the hot wire form the contacter to a constant power source instead or a power source when the key is turned on. if you change that wire to a key powered hot wire then it will be fine.
