Removing Flywheel/Ring Gear on 400 sport
#1
I am totally rebuilding a 97' 400 sport . I am taking off the flywheel , well, trying to . I have the nut and washer off the crankshaft , with a puller on the three tapped holes in the flywheel but it won't budge . There isn't something else holding it on that I am not seeing is there ?
How the heck do I get this thing off ?
Thanks,
D.

Take a 2 pound hand sledge and smack the center puller bolt and then retighten the bolt and repeat .
I know it sounds a little cavemanish - but - thats what ya do ~
I use an electric half inch drive impact most times .

I tightened mine up as tight as I could get it & it still wouldn't come off even hit with hammer. I fired up the propane torch with the center bolt on the puller tight applied a little heat & the thing jumped off. PS. don't apply too much heat you have electronica behind the fly wheel

I thought about that but I used penetrating oil on it already and I don't want it to catch fire and the burn up my stator if the fire should happen to get behind the flywheel . You applied heat to the flywheel itself and not the shaft correct ?

Well, after about 3 hrs of heating, hammering, pulling and cussin . I finally got the flywheel off . Guess what , three of the magnets are loose . Is there anyone that fixes these ? Does anyone know what type of epoxy the factory uses ? The magnets haven't fallen off yet . So, I could epoxy them back on if I knew what to use .
Thanks,
D.

Updated Replacement flywheels have sealed magnets. Not cheap, but better than replacing stator too when the old style flywheel magnets come loose and destroy everything.
