Default carburetor problems i think

I have a 02 700 Sportsman now having CARB. problems cant get it to idle. For it to idle I haft to set it too high. Fixing to open it up again to see if I,ve missed anything ,also having high carbon build up on plugs fast. Man I,m scratching my head. Have tried higher grade gas (89 octaine) also tried Seafome in gas . These carb problems all started when my float bowl was overflowing so i changed the inlet needle and seat to new one. Anyone heard about backing out one of the jet's one full turn to to cure this problem. I have not tried this yet but will soon . Please if you have time I need help. Don't want to take to Dealer. Just spent $ 1400 on new rear end and front clutch ***.

Sounds too rich. Try getting some new mains in 1-4 sizes smaller than stock. Just keep jetting down 'till the plug doesn't carbon up anymore. As far as the idle mixture goes, the screw on the bottom of the carb ( not the bowl drain ) closest to the engine, turn it IN to lean out the idle mix.

On 4 strokes the screw is a fuel screw, on 2 strokes it's an air screw. So turning it out would only let more fuel in, which is not what you want in your situation.

All the jets need to be fully seated and snug. Dont unscrew any a turn...they will rattle out. The mixture screw is the fine tuning for the idle circuit.
Check to make sure the pilot jet isnt plugged. The center hole is very small, and is usually the first thing to plug up.

If I read this right, Hondabuster is on it. It's going to be the pilot jet. You have your idle set high because it's plugged and you have the main jet coming in to bandaid the problem. Fix the pilot jet and your good to go.

Also check the carb boot for cracks, this will also make it run lean at idle.

clean out both jets and make sure the manifold boot is not cracked or leaking and check your slide diaphram to see if it is sealed to the top of the carb and not loose on the slide diaphram seat, also check the top of the diaphram cover there is a littlerivet that the spring sits on see if it is loose and sucking air.
