'01 Scrambler 500 weak spark
#1
My buddy has an '01 Scrambler 500 4 stroke. It wont start because of a very weak spark at the plug. Does anyone know what could be the problem or what to test and how to test it? We are pretty good mechanics but are not very familiar with the electrical system on a 4 wheeler. I do have a Fluke multi meter and know how to use it. ANY help is appreciated!

I would try a new plug and if that didnt help check to be sure the plug wire isnt pinched or cut some where.

Weve already tried several new spark plugs just to be sure and checked all the wiring. It has to be an electrical component that puts out voltage or boosts the voltage like the alternator, or the rectifier, or the ignition coil. I just dont know how to check all of these parts.

Try cleaning and adjusting the ETC switch on the throttle. The main electrical components on these rarly ever go bad. Also disable the reverse limiter by unplugging the blk wire. These things cause all sorts of weird things.

Thanks guys. Turned out to be the rev limiter was bad. We unhooked that black wire and everythings fine. Turns out he doesnt have to buy that $400 stator after all!
