06 SP500 Electrical Issue-Quadovator
#1
I recently bought a kit from http://www.quadovator.com/1618702.html to manually control the fan on my SP. I've installed it and it works almost as it should but has one issue.
With the machine running and I hit the switch and it resets or cycles the speedo (just like what happens when you turn the key to "on"). I doubt it should do this and I'm wondering if anyone else has seen this.
Any ideas as to why this is happening and how to correct it???
Thanks!

That does not sound like the mod is functioning correctly. I would double check the installation, and if that fails contact Quadovator. Any of the mods I have seen from them work without effecting other systems.
Good luck.
Good luck.

This is what i've found out from Quadovator...I'm not sure where to go with this...
Hi
It?s tough to tell without being there to play with it but my first guess is your battery is low or marginally bad. As control systems on these machines continue to move away from being electric toward being electronic they become increasing sensitive to minute variations in voltage. And the cooling fan is notorious for pulling a lot of start-up power.
A few customers with 500s have reported some weirdness when turning the manual fan switch on. It seems after about 20 seconds of the fan being on the hot light starts to blink, whether the engine is running or not. Polaris put so many different ECUs on these (and recalled many of them) it just depends which box is on it. This ?anomaly? hasn?t occurred on any of the twins yet as far as I know.
Honestly, this mod is really all about the light, not the switch. I?ve been riding with this mod for over a year now (first on a 700 then on my 800 and also a Ranger) and have never found a single situation that turning on the fan manually would offer an advantage. The stock system does a great job of turning the fan on when needed and keeping it on until things cool down. We had requests for a manual fan-on switch but I hesitated to build/offer it for the reasons above. Then when the idea for the fan-on indicator light surfaced I needed a dustproof waterproof light. It turned out I already had just the thing on the shelf but it was a switch with a light in it, so you get both even though the switch function is of dubious value. We haven't seen any ill effects from using the switch to turn the fan on but if you?re concerned about it you can disable the switch so the light will still function by not hooking up the red wire.
Regardless of the switch issue, if I were you I'd put a good charge on the battery then check the specific gravity of each cell to see if it?s marginal. Hope this helps, let me know.

Hi Greg,
I got the parts installed and I'll put the thermostat cover in the mail on Monday. I have issue that I wanted to run by you. The switch used for the fan that I bought is doing something weird. When I flip the switch on it "resets" or "cycles" the speedometer. I not sure how to explain it...the speedo does the same thing as it does when you turn the key to the on position. I got the parts wired just like the instructions say. The red wires to the power on the accessory, the green to the fan orange\white and the blue to the sender.
I can live with it but I don't want to be shorting out the speedo...any ideas???
Thanks,
_matt

well a low / weak battery makes sense. i have 2 off road lights wired up to a quadovator trail proof 2 prong switch and running off a green?/ live key on wire and it will flicker / dim when i kick my lights on.. maybe i should wire it to the battery ...

I'm not sure that the problem is the battery. It could be but still the switch gives power to the fan wire but it's stopping the flow of power to the speedo (briefly). I'm not certain how to bypass this issue. Could be trying a different power wire but will this cause a problem as it is? Would a bad switch cause this??
