The crank is supported by big ball bearings and the connecting rod on the crank has roller bearings.

Not saying that stendori, but in my experience, I have not seen many cranks on 500s go bad. It is usually the cam which gets rounded off and the rings and cylinder go bad. If it a roller crank, its similar to a two stroke with just oil injection and mix. As long as the cooloing system was working properly, I would think the residual oil would have lubricated these enough while the ring tolerence between the dry rings would have seized. Just my two cents.

you may be right trail, but i would think it all depended on how long it went w/out oil. my point is only is there really any way of telling how much damage there actually is w/out completely tearing all down and inspecting all lubed parts? its a hard call for sure.

I completly agree with you, but I can't help but wish for the situation to be an easy fix. I know what its like to have to pull one of these motors out of the frame and rebuild it yourself. It's alot of work, and I wish the best for the situation.

If I'm going to be on here saying stuff, I hope its stuff that will help people along the way as your words have helped me.

Every little bit helps.

I don't know if it is hurt to bad at all . I would not be suprised if the rings are stuck and compression dropped and the compression loss made it quit . I am not to worried about the bottom end , my concerns are with wiping out the cam journals and cam and rockers as well as the small end of the rod . Only was to know for sure is to take it apart .

That being said , I think the deal your dealer offered you is not to bad . Maybe negotiatte with him a little .

Why did we resurrect a 12 month old thread?
