What octane to use???
#11
In this case, just regular old pump gas will work.
BUT, to add a little more to what everyone has said....
To actually accommodate this power you guys speak of, you are supposed to run the lowest possible octane you can, prior to pre-detonation. This is what actually gives you the most power. So, with that in mind....any more octane than necessary is just a waste of cash.
I am running 12.5 : 1 compression.......and am running a 50/50 mix of 110 race gas and 93 octane pump.
Something else, about that race gas. The stuff I run(and I think most of it) is leaded gas......thus, it somewhat "lubes?" the interior parts too(well just the cylinder wall).....and I think it might burn a bit cooler too. I'm not sure on this part of the gas......just stating a little more info.

maybe they figue w/ the dynteck cdi box that your spark is hotter there for you need a higher octane. if this would be true i would think that the instructions that came w/ this upgrade would have told you that it would be nessisary to run a higher octane fuel. just a guess though. but your already running mid grade so probably would be fine.

Meh, if the manufacturer states you can run 87, you will be fine running any pump grade gas as long as the motor is stock. However, running anything over the minimum to prevent pre-ignition like stated above is a waste of money. You most likely won't see any power or fuel efficiency gains by using 92 when 87 is called for.

Yankeetim has it right in a nut shell, but ignition timing and camshaft overlap plays a big factor too. But you should use the lowest octane that doesn't clatter bad. A very minimal amount of clattering is not too bad. If V2's cdi box boosted his timing way up, he may need a higher octane, but I doubt that it does.
