Default STUCK AXLE NEED HELP!

I cannot figure out how to get the front axle off of the diff. I have a '98 sportsman. It looks like there is a rolled up metal piece that secures tothe diff male shaft. Everything I'm reading says yank out with the male part. Is this correct? Doesn't seem right though. Any advice appreciated.

Thanks, Wes
