Default Gear Selector Frozen on 700

Hello everyone, on my 04 Sportsman 700, it seems I have water inside the black box on the side of the transmission where the selector bar goes in. I am just checking to see if I'm in for any surprises when I unbolt it from the tranny. Does anyone have a remedy to keep from getting water inside and what should I spray in to keep it from freezing?

PS Do I have to take that round switch with the e-clip off first before I unbolt the box from the tranny?

Thanks for any help in advance.

Hey another Caper........What's going on!!!!!!I from Sydney..Now in Ontario...........It may not be frozen.....Some guys on here said the linkage might be loose where the joint is ...I would check that first....Sometimes they "bind" and keeps it from shifting ...Was it hard to shift before you think it frozed???
Buy the way did you get it at the Dealer on Grand Lake Road....I was home around Dec. 11-15 06 and dropped in there to see the showroom ...I told the salesman that I got two 2006 Sportsman 450 in Ontario for 7200 each he gave me a price of around 9000 there ...He said the difference mush be shipping charges....Ya right......Good luck..Let us know what you find.....Caper.... in Muskoka......

Yeah I bought 2 bikes off that dealer 2 1/2 years ago...my first and last....lol.
It must be ice in that black box because when I turn the heat on in the garage for an hour or so it shifts fine. I just don't want to take that box off and a million springs and spacers to fall on the floor.

Yeah, every May about 10 of us rent cabins at the Big Intervale fishing cabins(Margaree). We leave from the cabins and go up to the Highland Rd and travel across the highlands then take the new trail the Cheticamp snowmobile club put in that takes you around Jim Campbells barren and go down to Cheticamp for lunch(and refreshments of course) and then take the lowlands trail back to the fishing lodge where the chef has supper waiting for us. Excellent spot if your thinking about making a trip. That run is probably about 120-140KM.

Had the exact thing happen to my 02 700 last year after pressure washing in december. Let it dry out over summer, no problems this year. I sprayed it down with W-D 40 and it seems to help. Never took it all apart though.

I use to be with the Cabot Snowmobile club down there and know the highlands pretty good (I think).
We mostly unloaded at North river Bridge and went in through there up to the "Pig -N- Whistle. Ever been there before??...Then go to Cape Clear look-off...If you never seen it GO...GO...then down Fielding Road for gas in Margaree....My Parents also have a Trailer at Lake Ainsle and did some snowmobiling around there.....Caper
Mike Crimp runs the wilderness cabins in Wreck cove....You can get over to Cheticamp from there also...Good run...We stayed there to in the winter snowmobiling also.....Bye for now....

I had that too. The best way to fix it is to remove the black box as you call it and fill it with lithium grease. It will never freeze on you again.
