Ramps
#1
I went to load my Hawkeye into our 05 Dakota last night (I been using the ranger to haul into around) and the 70" tri fold ramp have a steep angle, and it did not seem too safe to run up on them. Is this steep angle normal? At 50 I really do not wish to have the quad decide to go backward on me.
Thank you for you input.

You do have to be careful when loading. Be sure to wear your helmet and if you can find a slope nearby to lower your angle it will help. I back my truck up to the curb and place the ramps on my driveway since it is sloped. One of my ramps did slip out from underneath me once and it scared the crap out of me . That's why I started putting my helmet on when loading . I also use tie down straps from the ramps to the hitch on the truck so the ramps do not slide. Good luck.

Thought about the curb, but then started wondering about when I went to unload and load out in the desert. I did have my helmet and the ramps were secured to the truck, but still had my nervous.

im not too worried about the steep part, its the sliding off if the tires spin part i dont like. having the ramps tie downed to the hitch is the best thing you can do.
ive loaded mine onto a sled deck on a ram2500, now that was steep, high and tricky

Yeah, it can get a little hairy especially w/mud. I also put the quad in 4X4 and Lo gear. The first couple of times sucked but I'm getting used to it, but when I'm @ home I have the wife watch just in case. On my first trip to Sonoita I gave it just a little to much gas, I had to pull the front of the bed back in place .

I experienced the same thing you did.
I had trifold ramps I bought originally
when I had my AC from Bass Pro Shop
about $99-120 if memory serves me
correct. Even with the straps (mine where
cheap, tension type came with) the ramp
would slide and I think those fingers with
the rubber boots don't help (my opinion).
Came down mid point, ramp slid and almost
rolled me next to concrete foundation of house.
I agree, wear your helmet and BIGGIE, don't
forget to put your vehicle parking brake on so you
get no movement, that 1/2" to 1" moving
while loading/unloading could result in ramp slippage
and off you go!
Another thing, b/c I had too much anxiety w/loading
and unloading, I went out to (atvramps.com) and
bought heavy duty (1500 lb/ ea.)120" long, rung,
non-finger, thick-lip, aluminum, Arched, folding ramps.
I LOVE THEM! Little pricy, doubled the cost but much
much safer!
Off course a little heavy, but they pack perfectly
in the back of my Toyota Tundra (length or width)
and the one ramp serves as a stop gap of the bike
going thru rear Pick up window (Yes I had an accident
once, not pleasant, recovered insurance paid).
Hope this helps!

Onre more thing forgot, those ramps
were 14" wide. Here is the P/N from
Atvramps.com, honestly I could of
settled for the 100" or 110" long
but for $30 more, why not have the
longest/widest for my heavy quad and
I am also 350 lbs, so I factored all of
that.
MF-12014-2 - (The Big Boy) Two 120"folding arched ramps 10'
(120 inches) 61 inches 14 inches each 40 lbs. ea. 3000 lb. total
(1500 lb per runner)
