Default 05 700 EFI Gear shifting problem

I am looking for what could be the solution and what caused the problem. I went out Saturday to my shed (were I keep my quad which I haven't road in a month or so) and started it up. It wouldn't move out of Neutral. I thought maybe it needed to warm up. I pulled it out of the shed and let it run for a few minutes. Still wouldn't move. So I sprayed the shifting rod with W-D 40 and the Arm that it connects to and the area where it goes into the transmission housing. I let it soak a few minutes before trying again. Still wouldn't work. So I stepped up on the rear brake lever and started smacking it with my palm. It dropped back into reverse. Great. I jumped up on it, pushed down on the rear brake and pushed the shifter forward and it went forward but never went out of reverse. Now it just moves around and won't move to any other gears. This happened a month and a half ago also, but after I got it out of park everything was working fine. NOTE: It is clean, lubed up, and been sitting in a sheltered environment. Anyone have any advice?

mine got stuck in high, after a friend drove it, didn't know how it happened, it didn't shift through the gears properly, after taking the gear box apart found a chewed up gear, $12 part, plenty of time trying to put it back togather, not that bad though, check the box, black non-metal cover, right side of bike just behind foot well, you will need to remove the foot well to get at it, when i posted my problem, others mentioned water getting in and freezing, wasn't my problem. check out this box, all the gears are marked making it easier to put back togather, all covered with black greese, bit messy, suggest rubber/surgical gloves.

Your problem might be the gear position switch is frozen. You can remove it or put a heat gun to it (not too close) and see if it is the problem. I filled mine with lithium greese and fixed the problem.

jdaddy-o is right, check behind the black box, but when your reasssemble it put some silicone on it to prevent any more water (if any) to enter the housing on the side of tranny.

Is this a common problem? I am just wondering if it is my quad because I have had so many problems with it since I got it less than a year ago.

Had the same problem. Try replacing the bellcrank, worked for me.
