I had the same thing last summer, after riding into town for gas with my 02 Magnum 500. Went to start it and nothing, pull start worked, but no speedo. I traced it to a broken wire, ground I think, on the solenoid under the seat. When I fixed the wire, I had starter working and 4 wheel drive but still no speedo. Didn't get around to fixing it before I put it away in September, but the testing I did points to a fried speedo. Try this fix and let me know.

does sound like an electrical issue. inspect all wiring on your bike for loose wire nuts or bolts. black ground wire too for loose nuts and bolts. it should be an easy fix.

check all the wires around the headlight pod area as they become broken or frayed by the handlebars always turning. seen this quite a few times. if you find any broken ones solder them together and add heat shrink.

It seems like I'm not getting power to anything. I tried to jump the awd by grounding it out and it still didnt work. I talked to guys on others forums who did that and it worked. So I took the wire loom off of everything and I'm trying to find something wrong.

did you see if you were getting power thru the solonoide to the starter or check to see if you push the starter button if that gives power to the solnoide? maybe the key switch isnt letting power thru. hard to tell w/ electrical got to trace to find the problem.

pooch897, based on the wiring diagram of a 2002, I think I know where the problem is on your 2001. Since your headlights work power is getting through the ignition switch and to the Left handlebar switch assembly and through the engine kill switch. The switch assembly has two six prong plugs, one plug should have two red/black wires, this is the 12 volts going into the switch assembly.
The other six prong plug should have a red/white wire, this is the 12 volt power for everything else on the bike. On a 2002 bike this wire goes back to the ignition switch for the starter then to a red/white splice. On a 2001 bike I think this wire goes to the red/white splice.
Pull the six prong plug with the red/white wire and see if it has any green crud. If it is green, clean everything and put dielectric grease on all connections. You can pull each wire out of the plug with a paper clip. Only do one at a time. If the plug is not green check for 12 volts at the red/white splice.

thanks freedom that left hand control switch is junk. I was able to bypass it and get the speedo to light up, the awd and the starter turned. I cleaned the contacts but still nothing so im gonna buy a new switch.
