Hi,
I just got an '02 Sportsman 700 today. It has only 156 miles on it. All I have ridden it is around the yard some. It seems to do well. It's the first 4 wheeler I've had (had several motorcycles). I didn't know they were that difficult to turn. Anyway, I can't wait to get on some trails in the mud.

Congrats on the purchase and welcome to the forums. Here you will find the friendliest people with worlds of insight for any problems, big or small.
As for the hard turning, make sure you are in 2wd. It should make it easier. My bike isn't in 4wd 'till I really need it

welcome to the wonderful world of atv's and fun. scammy's right about the people and their help. tire type and very slow speeds make a wheeler harder to turn. theres isnt just one skinny tire(motorcycle) your turning and no power steering lol. like scam. already mentioned make sure your not in awd and if your on like payment, theres no give to the surface so it does turn a little harder. by any chance is there goodyear rawhides on it for tires. they do turn hard.

Check the tire pressure. 5psi should be right but try 7psi to help them steer easier.

Hello amad and wecome to the fourm.I to have an 02 sp 700.It funny to hear you talk about how had it is to turn.I bought mine new in 02 and remember when I got it home I thought the steering was broke it was so hard to turn.It just takes alittle getting used to.Things to lookout for on the 02 make sure theres a metal plate over your water pump housing{thats 1} {2} buy a new rubber boot that gos from your head to the carb and just have it on hand the 02 boots love to split youll know when it dose it well run like crap.{3}If you ever have the pipe off look at the weld on the Y pipe ive never seen one that wasnt cracked nothing a mig gun cant fix.I dont know how you like to ride but if you want to wake it up.Put an aftermarket clutch on it open up the muffler and a K@N air filter.Ive had mine 5years now and would buy it all over again. One more thing that noise you hear comeing from the clutch id nothing. P/S If you dont have a winch on it get one.

Well I have futher proof!! Me and my bud Ryan (Honda Rubicon) were playing on lake Rosseau and theres about 1 foot of slush on the ice in spots. I was in 2wd drivin around makin a trail and I looked behind me and poor Ryan was in 4wd stopped and stuck in my tracks!!!! Then we hooked a strap to him and I pulled him arond the lake for about 5 mins.

And Caper I think you need a big light on your pod to tell you if your in 2x4 or 4x4, That should keep you outta trouble more often LOL

True, but there was a time when he must have got disoriented and got into a little hole that was not a 2wd hole and he semmed a little confused as to what the little yellow switch was for. Just a little confusion and he was out, but his wife made it through without a slip of the tires lol So I try to bug him a little here and there
