Biting the bullet on Friday; extended warranty?
#1
Well, I finally have an excuse (at least somewhat of one) to buy that 2007 X2 500 Deluxe that I've been wanting and will pick it up Friday. I'm initially getting it with the front brush guard, big front rack extender, and the scabbard mount. Down the road, I plan to add a low windshield, grip and thumb warmers and a plow system. I'm looking forward to it.
I'm weighing whether to buy the sixty month extended warranty. For those of you who have, are you glad you did? For those of you that didn't, do you wish you had? Please advise. Thanks.

save your money..................most things that will fail down the road will fall into the normal wear or abuse or neglect catagorie ...... you will spend days arguing with the dealer and it wont get you much help........if you buy it go talk to the service manager and have him outline what would not be covered and ask for what will be covered in writing!!!!!.... that will get em stirred up....... tell him your going to ride this bike thousands and thousands of miles in the next couple of years. ask him about wheel bearings or the piston rings wore out with 7000 miles on it.....if he says its covered GET IT IN WRITING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you're the type that's gonna pay the dealer prices for every service, then the extended warranty will prolly save you money. If not, it's pretty costly.
I bought it, and then later felt really stupid. It was WAY out of character for me to buy an extended warranty. I can do all my own wrenching, and I usually disdain extra-cost warranties (and any other type of soothing vaporware for the chronically fearful).
The sales person gave me a big list of all the services I'd get with the warranty, then the prices I'd pay if I had them done without it - wanted me to compare that total with the price of the plan. Then they gave me the line (of s*&^) that if I didnt' buy the PCMP and wanted to keep my REGULAR warranty, I'd NEED to have an authorized Po dealer do the work, so look how much I'm saving! *(point to left column, point to right column)* See? huh? See how much less money??? See?
"You'll HAVE to spend ALL THIS money IF YOU WANT TO KEEP THE WARRANTY IN EFFECT .... so buy the PCMP and save THIS MUCH!"
The lie in there is in suggesting that I'd have to pay dealer prices for FIVE YEARS no matter what. In reality, if I didn't buy the PCMP then the warranty would only be six months! I'd never need to pay Pure Polaris Puffed-up Prices for five years... only for 6 months!
They're selling the PCMP with a slimy, lying pitch - and, if they gotta sell it with dishonesty ...
then it's a ripoff.
Two mitigating circumstances which may help take the sting out of this in the long run:
1. I bought a Hawkeye. I love it. But... if/when the rear subframe problem enters my life I have credible claim to make the dealer cover the fix. I may or may not win, but I have a helluva lot better chance WITH the sucker warranty than without it.
2. Would you pay the dealer for serivce during thsoe 5 years even if you DIDN'T buy the extended plan? I think this is the big question.
When I go to pick up my quad they hand me a regular computer-printout bill with line-by-line charges for parts & labor and a total $ due on the bottom. The man marks "PCMP" on it, and I pay nothing. Well, since I paid for this plan, I'm bloody well gonna use it. I took the Hawk in for an oil change a couple of weeks ago. The bill said $88. Eighty-eight bucks for just an oil change!
The initial service, which includes fluids, filters, and general tightening & adjustment (valve clearance being the only 'inside' adjustment), was invoiced at almost $400.
Are you going to pay those prices for your maintainence for several years? If yes, then get the PCMP - you'll save $. If not, I'd say "no".
If I hadn't had an embarassing weak moment and bought the PCMP, no way in hell would I pay the dealer eighty-eight bucks for 2 Qts & a filter.
Of course, they DO wash the machine up real nice ... what's THAT worth to you?
I love my Polaris, really I do. I just hate marketing and sales.

Read what it DON'T cover. I read that on the notice that I got after buying my machine & decided no. You can get alot of small stuff taken care of for what they want. Like any ins it is a gamble that something BAD is going to go wrong.
