Default AWD PROBLEM AND MELTING PLASTIC RECALL

I just read a post that proves an AWD problem. A dealer told this guy, (after having his cage replaced for the third time), you can switch from 2WD to AWD when the temps are warm but you should keep it in AWD when its cold because if it engages into AWD when the switch is in 2WD mode you will break the cage.

Interesting...but why???

Understand the cold deal but what's the difference engaging with the switch or if malfunctions...or are talking if the front engages when the rears are spinning and 15000 rpm.

The dealer also said, BEWARE UNTIL THERE IS A DESIGN CHANGE, cause it will unwantingly engage into AWD when in 2WD mode while the rear wheels are spinning, and with it being cold out it will cause the cage to break easier. That right there says there is a problem.

Polaris has some odd ideas of what a improvement is. I hear about this front diff problem now but not on the old hub lock system they once had. The speedo is needed to have AWD now! but the older models did not,,smashed speedo who cares continue your riding day in 4x4. The Sportsman never had a melting plastic issue on the older models. Last but not least the new Sportsman has a much smaller 4.13 gas tank compared to it,s once 5.25 tank yet the new SP500 weighs 728lb vs the larger gas tank model that weighed 697lb?
Hasn't the speedo-awd always been tied together??
No, I rolled a 97 Sportsman 500 and completely smashed the speedo(analog style) and the AWD worked fine.

Heck , all Polaris ATVs have the true AWD system and many models no not even come with a speedo! Hows that? (Hawkeye,Scambler,Xplorer...)
THEY PROBABLY HAVE PLAYED WITH THE GROUND WIRE TO GIVE awd LIKE SOME ON HERE HAVE AFTER SMASHING THEIR SPEEDO AND DO NOT WANT TO BUY A NEW ONE JUST TO HAVE 4X4, ( sorry for the caps, lock was on and I am a 2 finger typer, so I didn't realize it)

The Xplorer 400 2 stroke did have a speedo, and the awd worked,

Sorry, I ment "Xpedition" AWD without the need of a Speedo, I miss the good old days.

THEY PROBABLY HAVE PLAYED WITH THE GROUND WIRE TO GIVE awd LIKE SOME ON HERE HAVE AFTER SMASHING THEIR SPEEDO AND DO NOT WANT TO BUY A NEW ONE JUST TO HAVE 4X4, ( sorry for the caps, lock was on and I am a 2 finger typer, so I didn't realize it)
I will want to learn this trick because when my $300 speedo quits I do not want to replace it just to get my AWD back up and working.
